Suren Govender has been actively involved in the fields of technology, digital innovation, and
cybersecurity, and currently holds the position of Chief Operating Officer at iGuardSA, a 24/7 cyber
security firm. In this role, he concentrates on enhancing organizational resilience and promoting
employee empowerment. With a career that spans over 30 years, Suren has gained significant
experience in handling complex technology projects and implementing transformative strategies in
companies like Dell Computers, IBM, and Accenture.
Previously, as the Group Chief Digital Officer at Life Healthcare Group Limited, Suren adeptly
managed the challenges posed by a significant cyber-attack during the initial outbreak of COVID-19.
Before his tenure at Life Healthcare, he was the Group Chief Data Officer at Absa Group Limited,
where he developed and implemented a federated data capability across the bank. Suren has
established himself as a visionary in managing complex technology projects and leading
transformative strategies in multinational corporations like Dell Computers, IBM, and Accenture,
supported by a strong educational foundation in engineering and information systems.
Suren is committed to continuous learning and innovation, often sharing his knowledge as a speaker
and lecturer, including his involvement as faculty for Henley Business School’s ‘Future-Proof your
Healthcare Practice programme. He is also a founding board member of the Cybersecurity Digital
Alliance. In 2009, he founded Inburru Technologies, initiating projects such as Fibered, Y3S Consulting,
and the solve4africa digital collaboration to improve cyber security and data analytics skills. His
philosophy emphasizes self-reliance, embracing diverse experiences, building networks, contributing
