With an MBChB from UP and MSc(Med)Sports Medicine from Wits, he has sports and exercise medicine practice in Winchester Hills (Mediworx-s) for 25 years, where he cares for different levels of athletes in Football, Cricket, Rugby, Gymnastics, horse-riders and Athletics. He is presently a PhD candidate regarding male football player health surveillance in the international football environment done jointly with the University of Amsterdam and University of Pretoria.
Other involvement includes being a postgraduate lecturer, examiner, supervisor and researcher at Wits (WiSH and CESSM) and a full-time lecturer at University of Pretoria, Section sports Medicine, the Therapeutic Use Exemption Commission Chairperson at South African Institute for Drug Free Sport (SAIDS), a member of the International Tennis Integrity Association TUE committee, a SASCOC accredited provider, a preferred provider for Wits Sport and the CMO for Events Medical Consulting paramedics.
He is also on the EXCO of the South African Sports Medicine Association. Previously he was the SA CMO at World Champs Daegu 2011, Africa Champs Benin 2012, AUSC games Angola 2016, Bidvestwits FC head of medical (2007-2017), Orlando Pirates team doctor (2017-2020), Pro-touch cycling team doctor (2017-2022), PSL CMO (2020-2022 – developing the return to football guidelines with COVID19), PSL Medical group secretary and Doping Control Officer for the 2009 Confederations Cup at Loftus, Central Gauteng Lions head of Medical (2015 to 2022), a founding member of the International Society of Exercise Oncology.
He is and has been involved in several educational CPD series with Wits Institute for Sport Health (WiSH), private institutions, societies and has presented at several local and international conferences, television and radio interviews on several sports and exercise medicine related issues. He has authored and co-authored several sports and exercise medicine-related publications and position statements in peer reviewed journals. He is a terrible golfer and an even worse guitar player.
He has recently presented oral (on International match congestion) and poster (on hip and knee osteoarthritis in active male footballers) presentations at the World Conference on Science in Football in Netherlands and the Isokinetic conference in London.
