Dr Alison Bentley

Dr Alison Bentley has been working in sleep medicine for 30 years and is widely recognized
as an expert in the field. As a GP she has concentrated her efforts in the narrow field of
diagnosing and managing patients with complex sleep disorders. She presents to both GPs
and specialists on multiple topics including insomnia, obstructive sleep apnoea and
children’s sleeping problems. In addition, she has a PhD in restless legs syndrome and has
supervised masters and PhD students on various related topics. She has held positions both
in local sleep societies and the World Association of Sleep Medicine and is currently the
chairperson for the new South African Society for Sleep and Health. Through the society she
offers two 6 lecture courses – on OSA and insomnia.
